We had friends over for a late afternoon tea and it was so nice seeing them that we pressed them to stay for dinner. Joel had recently picked the last of the french eggplants – those lovely white ones without … Continue reading

Eggs in Purgatory

I just love the name of this dish. It tastes pretty wonderful too, particularly on a cold night when you feel like rugging up in front of the fire rather than slaving in the kitchen. My husband was sick in … Continue reading

Spinach & Ricotta Pie

A very simple pie – but a good one at this time of year, when spinach and silverbeet are so vigorous in the garden. And not a bad way of getting iron-rich greens into children’s resistant little tummies. Bunch of … Continue reading

Rosie: Beef Odyssey #5 – Roast Sirloin on the Bone for Mum’s 60th Birthday

To me, nothing says ‘I love you’ more than a big sirloin on the bone. It looks impressive and tastes amazing when roasted and served rare and warm. Rosie: Beef Odyssey #2 – Casserole

The best way to eat a casserole is to cook it, then leave it overnight in the fridge and gently reheat the next day. This allows the meat to relax so it takes on added tenderness. I always remember an … Continue reading

Yorkshire Pudding

I don’t know what possessed me to make roast beef with yorkshire puddings when my whole family was suffering from gastro. It wasn’t the best choice for them, but it was a brilliant choice for me. Normally, my children are … Continue reading

Two Quick Pasta Recipes with Leftovers

I catered for two events last week involving lunch for about 35 people. I found myself with some leftover 41° Degree South hot-smoked baby salmon, tapenade, chargrilled vegetables and feta. Too good to waste.  So this is what I did… … Continue reading
